Over the years, the EU has been developing an EU Enterprise policy. Its objective is to produce an environment that is more conducive to the creation and development of businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), within the European Union. It particularly focuses on:
- Promoting entrepreneurship, business creation and cross-border trade;
- Promoting European competitiveness and business sustainability (with a particular focus on SMEs);
- Simplification of the regulatory and administrative environment.
As it is composed by 99% of SMEs, the hospitality industry is particularly interested in EU measures affecting the legal organisation or/and environment of companies (and particularly of SMEs), as well as their sustainability.
